Certificate of Authenticity (COA)

Securing a Certificate of Authentication (COA) is crucial when considering the sale, donation for tax deductions, or insurance of any memorabilia piece. This certificate serves as confirmation that thorough research and analysis have been conducted on the artwork. It signifies that field experts have verified it as an original and authentic piece by a specific manufacturer, and they stand by this determination.

The process of verifying authenticity varies depending on the item's characteristics and composition. However, we may suggest the following steps:

  1. Physical examination of the item

  2. Technical analysis

  3. Documentary research

  4. Scientific and forensic testing

Side-by-Side Comparisons

Our database contains a vast variety of memorabilia items. It is relatively rare when we receive items that we have not seen before, and of recent years, we have taken full advantage of this luxury. This process allows us to easily ascertain the validity of an item. With the help of a trained eye, glassware, and chemical technology, we are able to safely differentiate a duplicate from an original.

Thermoluminescence

When testing porcelain and certain types of clay that cannot undergo the fine-grain method, the pre-dose method is employed instead. In this approach, the TL reader is configured to monitor changes in the 110°C peak of quartz, known as the pre-dose peak, within the clay sample. With each irradiation and subsequent heating, the pre-dose peak experiences an increase, which correlates with the radiation dose. The initial increase is attributed to the natural dose absorbed by the piece throughout its lifetime. Subsequently, the sample undergoes laboratory irradiation, and a second increase is measured. By analyzing these changes, the age of the piece can be determined.

Request a Consultation

To get an appraisal on an item or to get an item certified as authentic, a consultation with our staff is required. We except virtual or in-person appointments. This is a crucial part of our process because there are certain items that we cannot accept, and certain items are discernable pre-inspection.
